Positive Prevention: South Africa

A Comprehensive Approach to HIV Prevention

Also known as P4P South Africa, this is a formative research project in collaboration with the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit (RHRU) at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.  Funded by the South African Department of Health, the project involves the investigation of the prevention needs and sexual behaviors of HIV-positive people in South Africa.

The research design includes both quantitative and qualitative components that will inform the development of a clinic-based prevention intervention tailored to the HIV-positive people receiving care, which is often excluded in prevention efforts.  The study will be performed at one urban site, Johannesburg General Hospital’s Adult HIV Clinic, and one rural site, Taung Hospital.
