Gender and HIV in the Middle East and North Africa: Policy Lessons for Low-Prevalence Scenarios
J Acquir Immune Defic Syndr Volume 51, Supplement 3, July 1, 2009; Sherine Shawky, Cherif Soliman, and Sharif Sawires, eds.

In April 2008, the UCLA Program in Global Health, in collaboration with Columbia University, held a think tank meeting at the American University of Cairo to build on themes discussed in a prior meeting, "Behavioral and Social Sciences Research on HIV/AIDS in the Middle East and North Africa", sponsored by OAR, NIMH, and NIAID in Tunis in 2007. At the Cairo meeting, approximately 40 participants, including significant representation from the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region, attended, including researchers, policymakers, and advocates with expertise in HIV/AIDS, gender, sexual and reproductive health, and related fields. The papers in this special issue of the Journal of Acqired Immune Deficiency Syndromes are the result of this think tank meeting.
