Dr. Dovel is a behavioral scientist and Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases. She is an expert in innovative HIV and related service delivery strategies in low resource settings and works at the intersect of social science and clinical trials. Dr. Dovel lived in Malawi for nearly a decade conducting research on gender dynamics around HIV testing and treatment services in eastern and southern Africa. She is engaged in global policy development to improve men’s engagement in health systems in the region and has recently received funding from NIH and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to design and test person-centered care strategies in Malawi for individuals living with HIV who are not currently engaged in care.

Dr. Dovel is the Director of Global Health Research for the Global Health Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles, where she oversees and mentors global health research for medical students and postgraduate trainees.
