DGSOM has established affiliations with medical schools around the world, which facilitate bilateral exchanges and rich reciprocal elective experiences in diverse settings.

Instructions for applying to electives

1. Complete the online application.

2. Submit additional required documents listed above to UCD. Use the Away Elective Checklist to request SAO documents from Alia Bakr (such as a Letter of Good Standing). Alia can also send any of the additional documents to UCD on your behalf.

3. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

4. Please be sure to complete the DGSOM Global Health Program Participation Requirements.

Note: Applications must be submitted at least 3 months in advance.

Documents needed for application

  • BGU Immunization Form (in folder)
  • Letter of Good Standing/Enrollment Verification approving you to participate in the elective (can be requested from Alia Bakr at the SAO)
  • Background Check Letter (can be requested from Alia)
  • Copy of first page of passport
  • Copy of traveler’s insurance
  • Copy of health insurance

Instructions for applying to electives

1. Complete the BGU Immunization form and have it signed by your physician.

2. Complete the Away Elective Checklist to request a Background Check Letter and Letter of Good Standing/Enrollment Verification and send it to Alia.

3. Alia will prepare these documents and send them back to you.

4. Complete the online application form and upload the appropriate materials.

5. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia. Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

6. Please be sure to complete the DGSOM Global Health Program Participation Requirements.

1. Submit payment for the number of weeks you wish to apply to (45 Euros per week of electives via PayPal only).

2. Submit the online application and required documents.

3. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia Bakr at the SAO. Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

Departments and clinics

Note: Applications are accepted no more than six months before the start of the elective.

  • Immunization Form (after submitting application)
  • 140 Euros per week of electives, in one payment upon acceptance, using the TAU Payment Form

Instructions for applying to electives

1. Complete the online application listed on their website. The Immunization Form is supplied to after applying.

2. Should you need any other documents or signatures from the SAO, please complete an Away Elective Checklist to request these items from Alia Bakr in the SAO. Alia can submit any of these items to the Sackler International Coordinator on your behalf.

3. Upon acceptance, you will need to submit the payment.

4. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

Elective offerings, general information and application

Documents needed for application

  • Application Form
  • Immunization Form
  • Enrollment certificate (known as a Letter of Enrollment Verification at DGSOM, can be requested from Alia Bakr in the SAO)
  • Recommendation letter from a Dean (will need to be emailed directly to Jikei from the Dean)
  • Copy of passport

Instructions for applying to electives

1. Complete the Application Form and Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Immunization Form (Part 4 of the Immunization Form can be completed later, no later than 1 month prior to arrival in Japan).

2. Request a Recommendation letter from Dr. Miller, who will need to email the letter directly to Jikei (elective@jikei.ac.jp) from Dr. Miller's email address.

3. Complete the Away Elective Checklist to request an Enrollment Certificate/Letter of Enrollment Verification, and send it to Alia along with your Application Form, Immunization Forms, and copy of your passport.

4. Alia will prepare your items and can send these items to the Jikei International Coordinator on your behalf.

5. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

6. Please be sure to complete the DGSOM Global Health Program Participation Requirements.

1. Complete the Visiting Student International Application (File 1).

2. Complete an Away Elective Checklist to request your transcript, and submit the Checklist to Alia, along with your completed Application form, Recommendation letter and CV.

3. Alia will prepare your transcript and send your application materials to the International Coordinator.

4. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia. Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

5. Be sure to submit any of the post-acceptance documents to Showa in a timely manner.

6. Please be sure to complete the DGSOM Global Health Program Participation Requirements.

1. The application process for Jagiellonian is individualized per student/specialty. To get more information on electives offered and/or to get started on applying, you’ll want to contact Dr. Joanne T. Witkowski. Be sure to include the specialties you are interested in and the time period you are looking to attend.

2. If you need any documents from the SAO to support your application process, please complete an Away Elective Checklist to request those items from Alia Bakr in the SAO.

3. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

3. Complete the Away Elective Checklist to request a transcript, and send it to Alia along with a copy of your passport and your application submission confirmation.

4. Alia will prepare your items and can send these items to the Karolinska International Coordinator on your behalf.

5. Once you have been accepted to the elective, please complete a Special Elective Request Form and submit the form to Alia will add the elective to your schedule—it will appear as an “away” elective.

6. Please be sure to complete the DGSOM Global Health Program Participation Requirements.

The Global Health Program offers a limited number of scholarships (up to $500 per student) to help offset costs related to participation in these electives. 

While the Global Health Program does not provide coordination or logistical support for these electives, students participating in these electives are encouraged to attend the Global Health Program's annual pre-departure orientation program in January/February. Students participating in these electives also have access to our 24/7 emergency phone line. For more information about the orientation program and the 24/7 emergency line, please reach out to Dr. Traci Wells at TWells@mednet.ucla.edu.

Participation requirements

After an affiliated partner elective is approved, students will be asked to complete the following additional participation requirements:

  1. Sign up for UC Traveler Security and Health Coverage Benefits - The University of California has arranged for students and employees traveling on official University business to be covered for a variety of accidents and incidents while away from campus or the primary workplace. Please visit the UC Travel Insurance page for details. If your air travel is purchased through UCLA travel, you will automatically be signed up for coverage and will receive a confirmation email at your UCLA email address.

  2. Register for the US State Department STEP Program - The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country. Please visit the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) page for more information and instructions on how to register.
