Global Health Fellowship
The DGSOM Global Health Fellowship is a 12-month cross-departmental program designed for clinicians committed to strengthening health systems and advancing global health equity. The fellowship is centered around building equitable partnerships with historically disadvantaged and under-resourced institutions and the communities they serve.
Fellows will receive mentorship from both UCLA and partner institution faculty while engaging in immersive, project-based experiences. Projects will be developed in alignment with the priorities and needs of partner institutions and will focus on medical education, quality improvement, clinical research, advocacy, or policy. Based on project needs and specialty, skills, interests, and language proficiencies, fellows will be matched to one of UCLA’s long standing partner sites in Africa, Asia, or South America. Each UCLA fellow will be paired with a partner site co-fellow to foster mutual learning and collaboration.
The fellowship includes a longitudinal global health curriculum featuring interactive sessions covering foundations of global health, a pre-departure orientation, and skill-building workshops tailored to specialties or project needs. Fellows will have the opportunity to contribute to global health teaching initiatives and journal club for trainees at UCLA and partner sites. In addition, fellows are expected to complete a scholarly project and attend a professional society meeting during their fellowship year.
Fellows will divide their time between the host institution and UCLA, where they will fulfill clinical duties within their respective departments.
