Global Health Resident/Fellow Scholars Program
The Global Health Resident/Fellow Scholar Program is a new formalized global health curriculum to support learners across departments. Interested residents can apply to be a part of this program starting in their second year of residency or any fellowship year and is open to trainees in ANY department or division at UCLA. The program consists of asynchronous global health didactics, interactive discussions, mentorship and support for global health clinical or research experiences and aims to strengthen the UCLA GME global health community.

Please complete the Global Health Resident/Fellow Scholars Program Application here. We encourage applicants to apply during their first year in order to complete all requirements before graduation. Please note that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Decisions will be communicated by Dr. Hijab Zubiari.
Program Components
Formalized Didactics
- Asynchronous learning that can be adapted for departments
Creation of online secured platform such as WordPress to allow residents to also engage in peer learning/discussion
GME Professional Development Series
Pre-departure trainings (preferably in person, but asynchronous option available as well)
Hands on mentorship and supervision from core faculty
A core set of faculty across departments will be identified to provide mentorship, supervision, and build global health partnerships in equitable fashion
Minimum 4 - week international specialty specific rotation
Ideally at a GHP partner site or site with longstanding partnerships from faculty within a department
Debrief (department specific and GME wide prof development series)
Self directed advocacy project preferably highlighting identified area
(i.e. OpEd, social media campaigns, local/international government advocacy)
Bi-directional opportunities based on shared goals from partner institutions

| Demonstrate knowledge of the epidemiology and global burden of disease in the context of historical, social, political, economic, and environmental forces. |
| Identify structural and social determinants of health, describe how they influence health and disease, and articulate strategies to improve health equity at the individual, community, and societal level. |
| Describe the architecture of global health, compare and contrast health systems in different contexts, and critically evaluate how global actors-- multinational agencies, NGOs, and local government—shape health systems, policies, and the delivery of health care. |
| Develop clinical and non-clinical skills for addressing health inequity and improving health outcomes using advocacy, research, and/or public health approaches. |
| Employ critical self-reflection in the practice of medicine and demonstrate humility and structural competency in order to collaborate and work effectively with diverse individuals and communities. |
