The Los Angeles Global Health Conference (LAGHC) is the largest student-run global health conference in Southern California and is organized by students from UCLA, USC, and the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine (KPSM). It is hosted by and takes place at UCLA each January. In addition to speakers from the nonprofit, governmental, academic, and activist sectors, the conference brings together hundreds of attendees from UCLA, USC, KPSM, the broader Los Angeles community, and participants around the globe to discuss the state of health disparities in the United States and around the world. Students begin planning the conference during the fall; leadership positions include co-directors, as well as chairs and members of the logistics, public relations, and speaker committees.

“LAGHC allows for the next generation of global health practitioners to start building the narrative that we want to see in our careers.”

2023 conference

The 7th annual LAGHC Moving towards Global Solidarity: Examining the Shared Impacts of COVID-19 took place on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at UCLA’s Covel Commons. Approximately 210 attendees joined in person and virtually from around the world to learn more about the conference themes of health-system equity, social justice, and public health infrastructure; the promises of digital health technology; and making mental health and well-being a global priority. Matifadza Hlatshwayo Davis, MD, MPH and Patricia Gordon, MD delivered the two keynote speeches.

Detailed session descriptions and speaker bios can be found in the conference program. To learn more about the experience of conference attendees, read our March 2023 GHP Newsletter Spotlight article.
