Opportunities for fourth-year students to experience how medicine is practiced locally and abroad
Through the Global Health Clinical Elective program, we provide opportunities for fourth-year students to experience how medicine is practiced in a range of countries, largely under-resourced low- and middle-income countries. We also offer opportunities to work in high-resource settings outside of the U.S. During these experiences, students learn about differences in health care and medical education systems, disease epidemiology, and treatment approaches. These include:
Primary Partner Electives Faculty-Led Electives
Affiliated Partner Electives Independent Global Health Electives
Note that Primary Partner Electives and Special Faculty-Led Electives may be found in the course directory in MyCourses. As these electives have DGSOM course numbers, they do not count toward the maximum 12 weeks of allowable “away” rotations to meet graduation requirements.
Affiliated Partner Electives and Independent Electives are not listed in the course directory in MyCourses. These electives require approval from the Dean’s Office and do count toward the maximum 12 weeks of allowable “away” rotations to meet graduation requirements.
